Many players in Ghana’s creative industry, especially musicians and filmmakers, have increasingly embraced formal education, proving that academic pursuit knows no age or career boundary.
Despite the demands of the spotlight, several of these artists are making time to return to school, either to complete unfinished academic goals or to gain new knowledge that enhance their creative journeys.
One of the latest to join this inspiring trend is celebrated kumawood actress Matilda Asare, who has successfully earned a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Management (Strategy) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Her graduation took place on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the university’s main campus in Kumasi. The event was not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a moment of inspiration for many in the film industry and beyond.
Matilda, best known for her vibrant roles in several Kumawood movies, shared that this milestone came after years of balancing education with the demands of work and family life.
“I completed my first degree in 2011 at Baptist University College. I did Human Resources and Management. I was in school while I was actively involved in film making, but people didn’t know,” she revealed.
Her decision to return to school was driven by a deeper purpose, beyond academic recognition . With a transition into film production underway, Matilda explained the need to broaden her understanding of management and strategy.
The graduation ceremony was graced by prominent personalities in the creative space, including Rev. Samuel Nyamekye of Miracle Films, veteran actor Apostle John Prah, and renowned director Jones Agyeman, all of whom came to support Matilda on her big day. She now joins the ranks of colleagues like Jackie Appiah, Kalsoume Sinare, and others who have also completed postgraduate studies in recent years.
